The End

Postmodern Muslima is saying good-bye to the blogosphere!

Her alter ego is busy working on a memoir, so this blog is no longer needed. I want to thank you all for being part of this journey. It was transformative, endearing, and amazing. One day, PoMu’s alter ego will share about how this blog — and those who read it — changed her life.

Go in peace, my friends.

The Nicest Thing A Boy Said To Me This Week

Was over coffee. (He brought his own paper cup). ”I have to admit,” he said, licking a java droplet from the side of his lip, ”that when I’m speaking with you, and I am in most my authentic place — “

– he paused, and cocked his head the way boys his age do –

“I find myself very attracted to you.”

There was silence, and then, he laughed. ”Oh my god! My heart is about to beat through my chest! I was so nervous to tell you that.” He put his hand on his heart to salute the moment.

All I could do was hide a smile in my own cup of coffee and think,

- wow.

Friday Love: Rajae

Reblogged from Love, InshAllah:

Rajae means “stronger than hope, less than will” in Arabic.

Rajae’s artistic path is based on three foundations: adventure, discipline and faith. At the age of four this young Muslim woman discovered the love of music and has been blossoming ever since.

At the age of 16, she was the first North African to be admitted into the Dutch Conservatory, and the first Muslim woman to start her own record label, Truthseeker Records, at the age of 25.

Because this woman is awesome.

Building

Postmodern Muslima has been silent for a while.

It is because her alter ego is busy. The girl behind PoMu has been writing away the past month, appearing on various sites in the blogosphere, interviewing authors for podcasts, Skyping Muslim female cultural creatives, and writing, writing, writing.

That is all PoMu does: she works her day job, then she comes home to write. There are no men in the picture because PoMu is building.

It is paying off: during the past month, PoMu’s alter ego became editor of a popular blog. In super exciting, mind-boggling, almost unbelievable news —  she was just awarded a real, bonafide writer’s grant for her memoir project.

She is building, indeed.

Advice: Clueless about my wedding night

Reblogged from Love, InshAllah:

Dear Love InshAllah:

I am a virgin, and I really don't know what to expect come wedding night. I'm definitely excited (one of the greatest understatements of all-time lol), but I am just so utterly clueless as to what I should do to blow the mind of my wife-to-be!

I've never kissed a girl let alone done anything to have had any experience whatsoever in the female-pleasuring department.

Great advice on wedding night, um, interactions for Muslims.

When I look at you, I see someone I love

when i look at you, i see someone i love

an imperfection, someone scared

scarred, and stubborn

when i see you, i see a man

magnificent and strong

weak at moments, maybe even broken in places,

but still very much lovable

when i see you, i see someone i think beautiful

and i embrace all the good stuff in me

for being able to look at you

and

to just think about love

Advice: Wish my wife would cover up

Reblogged from Love, InshAllah:

Dear Love Inshallah,

My wife is a beautiful, smart and desirable woman. She wears low-cut, tight blouses and skirts that end just below the knees. She laughs and converses with men at social events that we attend together. I get uncomfortable when other guys stare at or talk to her. I’ve explained this to my wife but she just gets upset and tells me that I have no reason to be insecure.
